Apple released macOS 27.0.1 on September 28, the first update to macOS 27 Golden Gate two weeks after its launch.

What it fixes

Apple did not publish a list of headline changes. MacGeneration, which reported the release, says the update mainly contains security fixes along with corrections for unspecified bugs. Coverage elsewhere has been inconsistent about what else is in it, so treat it as a maintenance release.

Updates for older Macs

Apple released two updates for older systems at the same time:

  • macOS Tahoe 26.7.1, for Macs still on macOS 26. That includes Intel Macs, which cannot run macOS 27.
  • macOS Sequoia 15.8.1, for Macs that stay on macOS 15.

That matters because macOS 27 runs only on Apple silicon. Apple has said Intel Macs will keep receiving security updates for three years, and updates like Tahoe 26.7.1 are how those arrive.

How to install

Open System Settings, go to General, then Software Update. Make sure your Time Machine backup (or other backup) is recent before you restart, as with any system update.

Check your apps

Point releases rarely break apps, but if you held off on macOS 27 until the first fixes arrived, now is a reasonable time to check that the apps you depend on are ready. Developers usually mention support for a new macOS version in their release notes. On our app pages, the minimum macOS version is listed with each app, so you can check apps such as Things 3, Bitwarden and Raycast before upgrading.

If you still rely on Intel-only apps, note that macOS 27 is the last version with full Rosetta 2 support. Our story on Mac App Store apps dropping Intel explains what that means.
