Terms of service

Last updated: October 22, 2026

1. About these terms

These terms govern your use of Mac App Index at macappindex.com (the "Service"). By using the Service you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the Service.

These terms are also the regulations (regulamin) required by Art. 8 of the Polish Act of 18 July 2002 on providing services by electronic means.

2. Operator

The Service is operated by Piotr Boroń, conducting unregistered business activity under Art. 5 of the Polish Entrepreneurs' Law of 6 March 2018, al. Solidarności 68/121, 00-240 Warsaw, Poland. Contact: [email protected].

That address is also our single point of contact for users under Article 12, and for authorities under Article 11, of the Digital Services Act (Regulation (EU) 2022/2065). We communicate in English and Polish.

3. The Service

Mac App Index is a directory of Mac apps. Without an account you can browse listings, guides and news, subscribe to the newsletter and report a listing. With a free account you can also upvote and bookmark apps and submit apps. Developers can buy paid listings, featured placement and ads.

We are not the developer or seller of the apps we list. Downloading or buying an app happens on the developer's site or the Mac App Store, under their terms. We are not a party to that transaction and are not responsible for the apps themselves. Information in listings is taken from public sources and checked by us, but prices and features change, so confirm them with the developer before you buy. Mac App Index is not affiliated with Apple Inc.

Technical requirements

You need a device with internet access and a current web browser with JavaScript enabled. Signing in requires cookies and an email address or a Google account. Nothing has to be installed. You must not supply unlawful content through the Service.

4. Accounts

An account is created when you first sign in with a magic link or Google. The contract for the account is concluded at that moment and runs for an indefinite period. You can end it at any time by asking us to delete your account at [email protected]. You are responsible for keeping access to your email or Google account secure. One person may hold one account.

5. Votes

Each account can upvote each app once. You may not create accounts to add votes, buy or sell votes, use automated tools to vote, or coordinate others to vote in exchange for something of value. We may remove votes and accounts involved in this and, in serious cases, the listing that benefited. How rankings are calculated is explained on How we rank.

6. Submitting an app

By submitting an app you confirm that:

  • you are its developer or are allowed to submit it on the developer's behalf;
  • the information you give is accurate and not misleading;
  • you have the right to let us use the app's name, icon, screenshots and description in the listing.

You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to reproduce, edit, display and distribute that material on the Service, in our feeds, newsletters and social media posts, for as long as the app is listed and for a reasonable time afterwards in archived content. You also allow us to read your app's public website and Mac App Store page to build and update the listing.

Every submission is reviewed by a person. We may edit listings, choose their categories, and decline or remove an app as described in our editorial policy. Submitting an app does not guarantee that it will be listed or when.

Free listings and the badge

A free listing requires the Mac App Index badge, with a followed link to the Service, on a page of the app's website. We check it when you verify and re-check it regularly. If the link is removed or marked nofollow, sponsored or ugc, we may withdraw the verification and unpublish the listing. Details are on the badge page.

7. Paid services

Paid listings, featured placement and ads are described, with their prices, on the Advertise page and at checkout. Prices are in US dollars. Payments are processed by Stripe; by paying you also accept Stripe's terms. The contract is concluded when the payment is confirmed. A paid service starts once we have reviewed and approved the app or ad. If we decline it at review, we refund the payment in full.

Paid placement is always labelled as Featured or Ad. It does not add votes or change an app's position in the Hot, Top or New rankings.

Right of withdrawal for consumers

If you buy as a consumer in the EU, or as a sole trader for whom the purchase is not of a professional nature (Art. 38a of the Polish Consumer Rights Act), you may withdraw from the contract within 14 days without giving a reason, by writing to [email protected]. At checkout you may ask us to start the service before that period ends. If you do and then withdraw, you pay for the part of the service provided up to that point, and we refund the rest. Once the service has been fully performed with your prior consent and acknowledgement, the right of withdrawal no longer applies. We refund using the payment method you used, within 14 days of receiving your withdrawal.

Refunds and removals

If we remove an approved paid listing or ad because it breaks these terms or our editorial policy, we do not refund it. If we remove it for any other reason, we refund the unused part of what you paid. A payment that is reversed through a chargeback ends the paid service it bought.

8. Prohibited use

You may not:

  • submit malware, pirated software or apps that mislead users;
  • impersonate another developer or submit an app you have no right to submit;
  • manipulate votes or rankings, as described in section 5;
  • scrape the Service in a way that puts load on it, or bypass rate limits or other technical protections;
  • attempt to access accounts or data that are not yours;
  • use the Service to send spam or for anything unlawful.

9. Intellectual property

The design, code, guides, news and other original content on the Service belong to us or our licensors. You may link to any page and quote short excerpts with attribution. App names, icons and screenshots belong to their respective developers. Apple, Mac, macOS and Mac App Store are trademarks of Apple Inc.

10. Reporting content and moderation

Anyone can report a listing, guide or ad they believe is unlawful or breaks these terms, using the Report option on an app's page or by writing to [email protected]. A useful report names the page, explains what is wrong and why, and gives a way to reach you. We confirm receipt where we have your address and decide without undue delay.

Automated checks verify badges and recalculate rankings. Decisions to reject or remove a listing, remove votes or suspend an account are taken by a person. When we act against content you posted or against your account, we tell you what we did and why, whether we relied on these terms or on the law, and how to contest it, unless the law forbids it or we have no way to contact you. You may appeal by writing to [email protected] within six months. A person reviews every appeal. You may also use an out-of-court dispute settlement body certified under Article 21 of the Digital Services Act, or go to court.

11. Complaints

Send complaints about the Service or a paid service to [email protected], with the email address on your account, what the complaint concerns and what you would like us to do. We reply within 14 days. If you are a consumer and we do not reply in that time, the complaint is treated as accepted.

Paid services carry the statutory rights of conformity under EU and Polish law. If a service is not supplied or is not as described, you may ask us to bring it into conformity, and where we fail to, reduce the price or withdraw from the contract. Nothing in these terms limits those rights.

12. Liability

The Service is provided as it is. We work to keep listings accurate and the Service available, but we do not guarantee that every listing is complete or current, or that the Service will be uninterrupted. We are not liable for apps listed on the Service or for your dealings with their developers.

Towards business users, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the six months before the claim arose, and we are not liable for lost profits or indirect losses. Nothing in these terms limits liability for intentional harm, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or anything else that cannot be limited by law, including the mandatory rights of consumers.

13. Personal data

How we process personal data is described in the privacy policy.

14. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by Polish law. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim before its courts. For business users, the courts of Warsaw have exclusive jurisdiction.

Consumers may also use out-of-court dispute resolution. In Poland this includes the provincial Trade Inspection Authority (Wojewódzki Inspektorat Inspekcji Handlowej) and the consumer arbitration courts attached to it; the register of bodies is published by UOKiK at uokik.gov.pl. Consumers in other EU countries can get free help from the European Consumer Centres network. We do not commit in advance to any particular dispute resolution body.

15. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms when the Service changes. The current version is always on this page, with its date at the top. We announce material changes on the Service, or by email to account holders, at least 14 days before they take effect. If you do not accept a change, you can delete your account before it takes effect. A purchase is governed by the version in force when you made it.

16. General

If any provision of these terms is found invalid, the rest remains in force. Not enforcing a provision on one occasion does not waive it. The English text is the binding version.
